Ross Rams football preview

ROSS RAMS / SOUTHWEST OHIO CONFERENCE

D-II, Region 8

Head coach: Brian Butts, 6 years at Ross, 35-27 record; FAVC champions 2011 and ‘09. Playoffs 2011, 2009. Three straight winning seasons.

Assistant coaches: Brian Sawyers, Dick Ballard, Mark Hafner, Kenyon Commins, Roger Osborne, Kevin Hutson, Doug Carlberg.

2011 record: 4-1 FAVC Scarlet, 8-3 overall.

2011 highlights: FAVC co-champs with Mt. Healthy and Northwest, all at 4-1. Was beaten 53-7 at eventual D-II unbeaten state champ Trotwood-Madison in first round of the playoffs.

Frank Heimkreite, 6-3, 230, sr., TE/DT; 1st Team All-FAVC, 1st Team All Area, 1st Team Cincinnati, 1st Team SW Ohio, Honorable Mention All Ohio. 60 Tackles, 7.5 sacks.

Gus Madden, 6-4, 215, sr., WR/OLB; 2nd Team All-FAVC, 2nd Team All Area, 2nd Team Cincinnati, Honorable Mention SW Ohio. 57 Tackles, 10 sacks, 12 receptions for 131 yards.

Brandon Fernandez, 6-0, 170, sr., WR/DB; 2nd Team All-FAVC, 2nd Team All Area. 81 Tackles, 4 interceptions for 186 yards and 1 Touchdown.

Joseph Jones, 5-10, 165, sr., RB/DB; 2nd Team All-FAVC, Honorable Mention All Area. 79 Tackles.

Gavin Peacock, 6-6, 285, jr., OL; 2nd Team All-FAVC, Honorable Mention All Area, Honorable Mention SW Ohio.

Notable: Other returning starters are Andrew Dunn - Junior Tailback 5’ 9 170lbs, Tyler Bridwell - Junior Offensive Guard, Defensive Tackle 6’ 4 215lbs, Luke Hannon - Junior Linebacker 6’ 2 215lbs, Quinton Couch - Senior Linebacker 6’ 3 205lbs, Drew Chase - Junior Outside Linebacker 5’ 9 180lbs. We have most of the starting defense returning. The defense was at the top of almost every category in the FAVC last year.

With the FAVC folding, Ross moves into the new SWOC.

League favorite(s): Northwest, The league will be a six-team race with Ross, Harrison, Edgewood, Mt Healthy, Northwest and Wilmington all capable of winning the SWOC.

Head coach: David “Doc” Amlin; first year as head coach; swaps places with former head coach Rick Bostater, who now is an assistant. Amlin was Troy Christian’s head coach from 2003-05 and also was an assistant at Vandalia Butler, Carroll and CJ.

2011 highlights: School records for least points allowed, most forced turnovers, most points on defense. That was the second straight season DC posted a winning record, the only in program history.
