2011 record: 4-0 GWOC North; 15-0 overall.

2011 highlights: Defeated Avon 42-28 to win D-II state championship, the first in program history. Followed a D-II state runner-up in 2010 season. Senior QB Michael Simpson was named the D-II state offensive player of the year. RB Isreal Green surpassed 2,000 yards rushing with state-record 327 yards rushing and six TD’s in title game.

Key returners:

Cameron Burrows, 6-1, sr., CB; nine INT’s last two seasons; among the nation’s most sought-after defensive backs; verbally committed to OSU.

Mike McCray, 6-4, 230, sr., TE/LB; like Burrows, another 5-star recruit; 134 tackles, 5 INTs; committed to Michigan.

Reon Dawson, 6-2, 175, sr., CB; mans the other side of the field; had five INTs; committed to Illinois.

Jarrod Clements, 6-4, 275, sr., DE; a transfer from Dunbar; 55 tackles and 9 sacks; recovering from a torn ACL he suffered early this summer; also committed to Illinois.

Cody Collins, 6-3, 285, sr., C; a transfer from Alter; had 32 pancake blocks; committed to Marshall.

Verondtae Wilkinson, 6-3, 237, jr., DE; 57 tackles, 2 INTs, 6 sacks; yet another sure D-I recruit; has offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Toledo and Buffalo

Trey Williams-Brown, 6-3, 252, sr., DE; 65 tackles, 7 sacks; Arizona and several MAC schools have offered.

Ashton Jackson, 5-11, 185, jr., RB; 1,180 yards rushing, 17 TDs; UC, Illinois, Purdue and Toledo are among programs to have offered the speedster.

Israel Green, 5-8, 205, sr., RB; 2,047 yards rushing; 32 TDs; offers from Western Michigan and Youngstown State.

Clem Vinegar, 6-0, 301, jr., OL; a starter at center as a freshman, moves over to guard with the addition of Collins.

Notable: Rams have won four straight GWOC North titles; obviously have a proven lineup, but must find a suitable replacement at QB for Simpson; schedule is favorable; Thurgood Marshall (10-2) was dropped in the opener for University (Fla.) in the Crosstown Showdown at Kings on Sunday, Aug. 26; University was 12-1 last season; the game will be shown on ESPN; also gone from the 2011 schedule are Beavercreek, Springfield and Xenia, replaced by Fairmont, West Carrollton and Greenville; a Week 3 matchup at Wayne should be another key contest as will Week 6 at Piqua. Not counting University, the Ram’s other nine opponents were a combined 42-49 last season.
