Thai restaurant coming to Kettering
A venerable Chinese restaurant in Kettering, China Chef at 3027 Wilmington Pike, has closed and will reopen later this fall as Siam Pad Thai, offering Thai dishes and sushi.
The restaurant was purchased by Pakawan “Fon” Christman, who helped introduce Thai cuisine to the Yummy Burger, a downtown Dayton diner, in 2004 and the following year became co-owner of Ban Thai restaurant (now House of Thai) in the Beaver Valley Shopping Center in Beavercreek.
The Kettering restaurant is being renovated and is scheduled to reopen in late October or early November, Christman said.
China Chef has operated at the Wilmington Pike location for nearly three decades.

I ate at the Yummy Burger when it was owned by Tik & Fon…and followed them to Bahn Thai…I loved their food, as it was authentic and flavorful. They noted that it was difficult to cook a wide range of dishes in the limited facilities that Yummy Burger had. I’m sure that the food will be just as good in the new restaurant.

I was at Yummy Burger/White Lotus a couple of weeks ago and had some great food. No PB in my larb, but lots of pepper.

I hope they will serve true Thai dishes and not Americanized versions.

I loved the China Chef for carry-out sometimes a couple times a week. They were always friendly and great food. Can’t say I will frequent the Thai restaurant. I do not like that food at all.

TommySan: As the story notes, Fon was at the Yummy Burger in 2004, but left in 2005 to become co-owner of Ban Thai in Beavercreek. But my recent experience at the Yummy burger, as of a couple of months ago, did not mirror yours. The stir-fry dishes I tried had no peanut butter in them.

YUK! Hopefully, it’s better than The Yummy Burger was. They throw peanut butter in everything. Again, YUK!
